Current Conditions

Last updated: March 2026

Fire Bans / Campfire Restrictions
  • Washington burn restrictions (state, county, city, and private lands under DNR protection): WA DNR burn restrictions map
    • Use this first if your stop, campground, or lodging is outside federal land. It is the official state check for current burn restrictions on DNR-protected lands and helps answer whether outdoor burning is limited or banned before you light anything.
  • Mount Baker-Snoqualmie NF fire/campfire rules (western side)
    • Use this for current campfire restrictions, wildfire-related closures, and other fire information on the west side of the corridor before heading into Mount Baker-Snoqualmie trailheads, campgrounds, or recreation sites.
  • National park fire closures and wildfire impacts: North Cascades fire closures
    • The park’s wildfire-specific conditions page. Check this for fire-related trail, area, and camp closures inside the North Cascades National Park Service Complex, especially when smoke or nearby incidents are affecting access.
  • Okanogan-Wenatchee National: fire restrictions and campfire rules (eastern side)
    • Use it to check whether campfires are allowed only in certain sites, restricted to stoves, or fully banned before heading to trailheads, campgrounds, or dispersed sites east of the park.
Wildfires/Smoke
  • Wildfire smoke and AQI (primary map): AirNow fire and smoke map
    • Your go/no-go air quality check. Use it to see where smoke is concentrated and whether AQI levels along SR-20 (and at your destination) are likely to affect visibility, breathing, and outdoor plans.
Road Status: SR-20 & Washington Pass
  • SR-20 road and pass status (primary): WSDOT pass report
    • The official “is the pass open?” page. Use this first for seasonal opening/closing, current restrictions, traction requirements, and travel notes specific to the North Cascades Highway.
  • SR-20 alerts by route (closures, restrictions): WSDOT - SR 20 travel alerts
    • Real-time alerts that affect your trip today - closures, lane reductions, planned work, and other route-level disruptions that might not show up in a general pass status headline.
  • Traffic, incidents, cameras (route context): WSDOT real-time travel map
    • The situational-awareness map. Use it to spot crashes, backups, and active roadwork, and to check cameras for real-world conditions before you commit to the drive.
Road Status: North Cascades National Park
  • Park road access and seasonal closures: NPS road conditions
    • The park’s official road access summary. Use it to confirm which park roads are open (and which are seasonally closed) beyond just the state highway.
  • Park alerts and current issues: NPS conditions (alerts)
    • The “what changed this week?” page - closures, construction impacts, facility disruptions, safety issues, and other conditions that affect hikes, visitor services, and trip planning.
Road Status: National Forests
  • Road and Trail Conditions: Mount Baker–Snoqualmie NF Conditions (western side)
  • Road and Trail Conditions: Okanogan–Wenatchee NF Conditions (eastern side)

Where to verify conditions for roads, trailheads, campgrounds, and recreation areas. Helpful for confirming seasonal access and facility status.
